Five-HT Cafe & Bar @ Bangsar: Quality and Delicious Japanese-Inspired Food

New cafes are popping almost every day around Klang Valley, and to be brutally honest, most of these cafes are the same. You'll find very typical cafe food on the menu - big breakfast, baked eggs or a few sandwiches and salad choices.

Don't you just get bored of these places that serve the same old food? Have you ever wonder if you could get something different? I have the answer for you - Five-HT!!!

Five-HT is a cafe located along Jalan Maarof in Bangsar. I came across Five-HT when I was driving by, and had a chance to try out the food with my friends few weeks ago.

The cafe is spacious and has a modern touch to it. Unlike many cafes, Five-HT actually offers proper food with quality, thanks to its fully equipped kitchen at the back of the cafe.

Why the name "Five-HT", you ask? Five-HT (5-HT) is an abbreviation for 5-hydroxytryptamine (a.k.a neutotransmitter serotonin). Serotonin is something all of us have and responsible for happiness and general wellbeing. And lucky for us, coffee contains caffeine, which increases the amount of serotonin levels in our body. In short, coffee increase happiness and wellbeing.

Enough of science talks. Let's see what happy food and drinks we had the other day!

I've always wanted to try poke and finally got my prayer answered with this Poke Bowl (RM 45). A selection of fresh sashimi ceviche tossed in lime and spicy citrus sauce served with cucumber, avocado and white rice. The dish looks very simple but it was bursting with flavours. My personal favourite and I highly recommend this dish!!

Okonomiyaki (RM 20). Made with cabbage, onion and carrots, and generously drizzled with okonomiyaki sauce and bonito flakes. I love the rich flavours of this Japanese pancake. A perfect starter to have!!!

Tokyo Drip Burger (RM 28). Crispy chicken katsu sandwiched between charcoal buns served with wasabi mayonnaise siracha hot sauce topped with an onsen egg PEFECTLY DONE. This burger is not to be missed by burger lovers!

Gyu Tamago (RM 90). We had a shock when we saw the price on the menu. But everything made sense after we took our first bite. Perfectly seared melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu beef served with creamy silky egg skin and rice - every spoonful was satisfaction to the max!

Fried Hokkien noodle style udon with crispy beef bits served with tempura onsen egg and spinach. The Black Ninja (RM 26) surprisingly had the "wok hei" that a traditional Hokkien noodle would have; except they use springy udon rather than your usual yellow noodles.

Espresso + Milk (RM 10). I didn't try the coffee the other day, but I was told the flat white tasted not too bad.

While going through their coffee menu, I can truly see the creativity of Five-HT. The have some super interesting coffee under the 5HT specials, and we tried the Avocado Espresso (RM 18). Yes, avocado!! Weird, huh? The barista told us that this is one of their signature coffees, so..... we knew we had to give it a try. Since I was fasting on coffee (T____T), I was told that the coffee was really smooth. I'm so going back there again to try it for myself!!!

Mixed Berries Smoothie (RM 18). For non-coffee lovers, this is so worth trying. A combination of various berries, the smoothie was rich and fruity yet not too sour - thanks to the banana and pineapple in it. I was so in love with this!

We fell in love with the food at Five-HT and we couldn't even decide which was our favourite! Some might say the price at Five-HT is a bit steep, but I believe you get what you paid for. With the quality of their dishes and drinks, I think this place is still worth a try.

Oh! If you have trouble finding a parking space along the road, you can always park at Bangsar Village.
