Pim's & The Rama @ Aman Suria, PJ: Real Thai Restaurant & Bar

17:49 becky-wong 0 Comments

After the success of its first outlet in Klang, Pim's Thai Food expanded their business and opened up a 2nd outlet at Aman Suria - Pims & The Rama. Opened for only a few months, Pim's & The Rama offers authentic Thai food.

It is quite easy to spot the restaurant with the big restaurant name.

The interior is spacious and very comfy with a modern setting.

Rama's Beloved Fried Donut Prawns (RM 18.90). Mince meat with prawns fried till crispy and served with their chef's special sauce. I thought the donut has similar texture to a fish ball, and it is a nice starter to snack on.

BBQ Pork Sticks - 3pcs (RM 12). BBQ pork is one many popular street food at Thailand. The pork is juicy and tender and generously with sweet-savoury sauce. BBQ pork is probably one of the many dishes I would order whenever I dine in at a Thai restaurant.

Original Thai Papaya Salad (RM 18). The salad is crunchy, sweet, savoury and spicy - everything you are looking for in a Thai salad!

Thai Otah Otah Seafood (RM 25.50). Rich and creamy Thai-style otak-otak. Unlike our local version, this is less spicy but a tad more creamier and rich in taste. I like this a lot.

Pim's Pandan Chicken (RM 17.90 - 4 pcs | RM 23.90 - 6 pcs). A place of delicious fragrance pandan chicken with tender and juicy centre is a must-have, especially the ones at Pim's & The Rama.

Thai Grilled Pork Neck (RM 19). This is probably one of the well-loved dishes throughout the night. The meat is well-marinated, tender and juicy.

Fresh Siakiap Seamed with Chili & Lime Soup (RM 66). I love steamed fish especially Thai-style steamed fish. The sour and spicy broth is so appetizing! Pour in a bottle of Thai beer to elevate the entire dish and bring out the sweetness of the fish.

Fresh Boneless Deepfried Siakiap Fish with Thai Sweet & Sour Sauce (RM 68). If steamed fish is not for you, go for the crispy boneless fried fish then. Crispy skin and flaky meat drizzled with sweet & sour sauce.

Yen Ta Fo (RM 39). Thai's version of Chinese's Yong Tau Foo, this special Thai hotpot is made mainly using soy. As many Thai dishes, the soup is sour and spicy but it has a hint of sweetness in it. If you have never tried Thai-style Yong Tau Foo, do come to Pim's and give this dish a try.

Pim's Super Seafood Tom Yum Pot (RM 88). The seafood tom yum pot is definitely for those who love having seafood tom yum. The pot comes with live tiger prawns, New Zealand Mussels, Crayfish, baby snowcrab, Thai roasted pork, octopus, squid, onsen eggs, abalone, Lala, mushrooms, scallops, fishballs, and Thai QQ noodles. The tom yom soup is refillable, and the pot comes in 3 sizes depending on the size of the group.

Chef's Green Curry Chicken (RM 28). Rich and creamy Thai green curry served with tender beef slices.

Chef's Green Curry Seafood (RM 29). Not a fan of beef? Seafood it is then!

Pad Thai Noodles Prawn (RM 16.50). If you are looking for something simple, a plate of classic Pad Thai might just be what you are looking for.

Spicy Hot-Basil Leaf Minced Pork Rice with Fried Egg (RM 14.90). Another simple yet classic Thai street food - minced pork with a little bit of spiciness but packed with aromatic basil leaves.

Thai Pork Leg on Rice (RM 15.90). Braised for long hours, the pork leg is almost melt in your mouth tender.

Thai Purple Drink with Lime (RM 5.50). Cool and refreshing drink to have especially after all the hot and spicy Thai food.

Pim's & The Rama has quite an extensive menu list and I felt the pricing is pretty reasonable for a Thai restaurant. If you are looking to explore new Thai restaurant in PJ area, Pim's & The Rama would be a good place to go.

16:34 becky-wong 0 Comments

Durian season comes and go in a blink of an eye, and many people are willing to travel near and far just to satisfy their cravings before the season goes off.  Not just locals, but there are tourists who
If you are a huge fan of the King of the Fruits itself, we have found 5 places around Klang Valley where you can enjoy durian all year long:

1. Charlie’s Café

Tucked away in the neighbourhood area of Taman Desa, there stood a café named Charlie’s Café founded by a husband and wife team, Desonny Tuzan and Debra, which are both from Sabah. Unlike many cafes around town, this pork-free café started off with the idea of paying forward and blessing the community. They also work with the Orang Asli community in sourcing fresh produce and one of them are durians. If you love durian, the creamy D24 Soft Serve and rich Durian Cheesecake is not to be missed.

2. The Humble Pie

Leaving a career that you have built for years and diving into a whole new territory can be scary at times, but The Humble Pie has shown that with the heart and passion you could achieve your dreams. The Humble Pie was opened in May 2014 with the intention to gradually introduce the food, but was forced to accelerate their plan due to overwhelming demand. This small neighbourhood café is cosy and with a rather minimalist interior. As the catchy name suggested, the café offers quite a range of both sweet and savoury pies; and the Duffee and seasonal signature Musang King Pie are definitely a treat for durian lovers.

3. BingSu Café

From drama to music, the Korean wave has taken Malaysia by storm. Along with the K-pop wave, many Korean cafes and dessert places can be easily spotted around Klang Valley. One of the craze would definitely have to be bingsu. One of the places that you can enjoy this Korean sweet treat is BingSu Café at Damansara Uptown. While travelling in Korea, the family came across bingsu and fell in love with this Korean dessert. With the intention of introducing authentic bingsu to the public, they have partnered up with Korean collaborators offering classic bingsu as well as local favourite – Durian Mango Bingsu.

Understood the importance of having good pizza dough, U Pizzeria had been selective over the combination of flour they uses in making the dough. In order to excite their customers, U Pizzeria has been constantly going through R&D process to create new flavours, and one of their creation is the dessert pizza – Musang King Pizza!

Tables of Joy @ Damansara Uptown, PJ: A Taste of Home

21:47 becky-wong 0 Comments

Home-cooked meal is probably one of the many things that we missed, especially if you don't stay with your family. Many times we have the plans to prepare our own meals, but either we are too busy or tired from work. No matter you are longing for a home-cooked meal or want to take a break from all the cooking, Tables of Joy at Damansara Uptown is the place for you.

Located along the same row as Soft Serve in Damansara Uptown, Tables of Joy is family-owned restaurant that serves dishes prepared by the owner's mom herself.

Tables of Joy has simple interior yet the place is considerably spacious. With the concept of serving homey food, the owners insist of sourcing their own ingredients and preparing the food themselves as much as possible. Every morning, they will go to the market nearby to get the fresh produce they needed.

We had a short conversation with Joyce, the owner, and she shared with us that the dishes served at the restaurants are her mom's recipes.

Baked Stuffed Crab (RM 20/piece). Crab meat incorporated with white sauce, the Baked Stuffed Crab is flavourful, rich and creamy yet doesn't taste heavy at all. All of us enjoyed it a lot! The Baked Stuffed Crab is only available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.

Pork Curry (RM 25). The curry is aromatic, rich and not too spicy; while the pork slices are really tender. The Pork Curry very much reminded me of the curry my aunties always cook at home.

Signature Lamb Curry (RM 35). Still as rich and aromatic, but the lamb curry has deeper flavours to it.

Sambal Assam with Squid and Prawns (RM 30). For one, I'm really very particular with my seafood. It has to be fresh and cooked properly. The seafood at Tables of Joy are really fresh and can tell they are being prepared by someone who is experienced in cooking seafood. The sambal assam gravy has a mild acidity to it and not too spicy too. I guess they have tone-down the spiciness for the majority. If you love petai, you can add them to the dish by just topping up another RM 5.

Chicken in A Basket (RM 20). The spring chicken is so well-marinated and surprisingly tender and juicy! I was expecting the meat to be dry when I saw it's a spring chicken, but how wrong could I have been. This is definitely one of the dishes that I'll reorder when I'm back at the restaurant next round.

Four-Angled Beans with Sambal Udang Kering (RM 15). OK, you will be seeing a chili sign next to the dish, but it is not spicy. The crunchy beans and dried shrimp goes so well together!

Steamed Okra with Crispy Garlic (RM 12). The steamed okra is really a very simple dish, but is definitely a homey food that will make you want more of this.

Cendol (RM 6). I LOVE the gula melaka in it! The sweetness of the smoky caramel- and toffee-edge gula melaka is perfectly balance-out by the coconut milk.

Sago Gula Melaka (RM 6). The sago is perfect - soft and chewy, and the combination of gula melaka and coconut milk is just perfect.

Barley - Hot (RM 3).

Tables of Joy has certainly live up to their promise in serving home-cooked food. The food might not have the prettiest plating or the most creative combination, but each and every plate will definitely reminds you of home. Regardless you are missing your family's cooking or want to give your mom a break in cooking; Tables of Joy is the perfect place to go.
