Beauty Must Have - Part I: Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara from Kiss Me

23:22 becky-wong 0 Comments

I've decided to start a series of blogpost on my personal beauty must have - from cosmetics to skincare to haircare! I'm gonna start with my favourite mascara of all time - Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara from Kiss Me. It cost about RM45.

I've tried various famous brand of mascara, but wasn't really satisfy with anyone of them. One day, my friend recommended me to the Herione Make Long and Curl Mascara from Kiss Me. I've decided to give it a try, since I was also hunting for a good mascara. I was hooked since then! 3 factors that I'm in love with this mascara:

1) The fibers are really light, and I could hardly feel the weight on my lashes. Due to the lightness of the fiber, I could have my curl from day to night. Previously, with my old mascaras, my lashes would lose its curl after half a day. With Kiss Me, I could apply my mascara early in the morning before going to work, my lashes would still stay curly even after office hour! To add on, it doesn't give your the lashes the ugly clump!

2) It really lenghten my lashes. Not that I have really extremely short lashes, but I can really see the different in length after I've applied this. Personally, I would say, it is really really long.

3) What is the main worry for girls when we apply mascara? Bingo - Panda Eyes! That our main concern, especially you have oily eyelids like mine - it tends to get a bit more worse. I've been through "panda eyes" phase with many mascaras - even some of them claimed to be waterproof. Well, I guess they're just waterproof but not "oil-proof". My worry goes away after I've tried this mascara from Kiss Me. I wouldn't say that it doesn't smear totally. At the very least, with my oily eyelids, it really doesn't smear that much. I just need to check my mascara after lunch time, and just wipe a bit of smudges off the edge of my eyes, and I'm good to go.

When there are pros, there would have one or two cons somewhere. With this mascara, the only downside I would say is - it's kinda hard to remove with most of the eye makup remover in the market. So far, I've found 2 options:

1) Use Kiss Me mascara remover - which is a little pricy, to be frank. It come in a pen/mascara form (I stop using this, so I did not have a picture of this), and is light pink in colour. You can get this in SaSa or Watson, and when they are having promotion, you can get it in 2 in 1 - 1 mascara and 1 remover. I'll say this is quite a good deal, since the remover itself already cost as much as a mascara. **Sorry again, I can't remember the pricing. I'll do better the next time!

2) You could use Cyber Colours Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. I'm currently using this remover as I feel it is cheaper and I can use it for a longer period. If I remember correctly, it shouldn't have cost more than RM35, and you can get it from SaSa.

I got a mini size when I purchase the full size previously in SaSa. Cute!!

REN Skincare - a Clean Skincare

21:49 becky-wong 0 Comments

As blog title - Beauty Junkie - I'm a person who can't resist to try out any skin care or cosmetics. If only I could, I would get my hands on every single products out there and try them all out. Unfortunately, reality doesn't permits this.

Through all these years, I've tried tons of brands and I did stumble across quite a few good ones. Few months back when I was in Bangsar, I came across REN Skincare in Bangsar Village in Kensapothecary. They carry other brans such as Dr Brandt, Caudalie and etc. I was interested in REN Skincare after visiting the store, and decided to head back the shop again to purchase the products. I made 2 visits to the shop.

During my 1st visit, I bought 3 products: Cleansing Gel, Night Serum, and Mask.

(L)Clay Mask, (M)Night Serum, (R)Cleasing Gel
From Right to Left:

Mayblossom T-Zone Control Gleansing Gel - For Combination Skin
I used to cleanse my face with gleasing gel, but it has been irritated skin. That has made me switch to foam cleanser, as one of my beautician actually adviced that foam cleanser is more gentle and gel cleanser, and they do not irritate the skin further - especially if you have sensitive skin like mine. When I was using my previous gel cleanser, I could clearly see the redness on my face (due to acne scars). However, after using the gel cleanser from REN, I fall in love with this product! It doesn't dries up the skin. On the other hand, I felt my skin is smoother and clearer after a period of using the cleanser. To add on, it actually can remove non-waterproof makeup - but I'd advice to use a proper makeup remover instead of relying a cleanser to remove all the makeup. It costs around RM120 for 150ml (if I remember correctly).

ClearCalm 3 Replenish Night Serum - For Blemish Prone Skin
Apart from having combination and sensitive skin, I'm blemish prone too. Talk about being difficult to find a perfect match product for my skin! Because of my skin condition, I really been having a hard time to find a moisturizer or serum that could keep my skin moist enough but would not cause further breakouts or redness. I was kinda wary when started using their serum, as back in my mind I had the impression that serum tends to be richer (that's why people add serum into their skincare routine to give it a boost). However, I was assured by the promotor from Kensapothecary that REN serum would not give my skin the negative effect. The serum is supposed to soothe and calm the skin, also to reduce redness and pigmented scars. Guess what! Although it is a night serum, it doesn't leave your skin feeling sticky or too rich. The serum absorb into my skin very fast and it leave a smooth sensation to the skin. It kinda make me want to touch my face everytime after I've applied their night serum. It is priced at RM129 for 50ml.

ClearCalm 3 Clarity Restoring Mask - For Blemish Prone Skin
THIS is one of my favourite mask - or I should say, one of my proudest skincare that I've purchased! Am I exaggerating? Nope, definitely not. The biggest reason that I'm so in love with this clay mask is because it  helps to dry up the acne/pimples, hence, they heal faster. Also, it deep cleanse the pores and improve the skin tone - whereby, it will reduce the redness and scars too. Whenever I use the clay mask, I can totally see the difference on my face and also the obvious redness reduce in my acne scars. I'm using the mask twice a week, which is recommended, as all the makeup we slap on our face daily and the dust that gets into our pores everytime we go outdoor - these really tends to clog up the pores and lead to acne problem. Due to they've added sulfur into their mask (as it helps to combat acne), I can smell sulfur on my face whenever I apply the mask. Personally, I'm totally fine with this, as the end results are really really good. So, for you peeps who wish to give this a try - go ahead! But try to bear with the smell. After, no pain no gain! Right? The mask is slightly at the high side, which is RM179 for 50ml. Alternatively, instead of using it on the whole face twice a week, you peeps can either just apply it on the affected area; or apply whole face on one day and apply on the affected area only on the other day. This way, you could use the mask a bit longer.

On my 2nd visit to Kensapothecary, I've bought their toner.

Clarifying Toning Lotion - Combination to Oily Skin
For me, toner is one of the very essentials skincare. A good toner suppose to remove dead skin and prep the skin to absorb better on whatever skincare you are applying after that. REN toner helps to unclog the pores and sloughs off dead skin leaving the skin looking clearer and smoother. I've started using their toner around a month, and so far things are working good for me. The toner costs about RM123 for 150ml.

All in all, I'm very satisfy with REN products. In fact, I'm actually considering to buy their milk cleanser - which could also use as a makeup remover.

Currently they have 2 outlets in Malaysia - Empire Shopping Gallery and Bangsar Village II. Their address in Empire Shopping Gallery is - Empire Shopping Gallery Lot UG08, Jalan SS 16/1, SS 16, Subang Jaya, Selangor. As for their outlet in Bangsar Village II, it is located same floor as Aesop (which is 1st floor) - take the escalator near Ted Baker and Massimo Dutti and you'll be at the correct direction.

Happy Shopping!!

Xiao Lao Wang Hotpot 小捞王

14:01 becky-wong 0 Comments

After the 1st Tasebuddies gathering organized by +Nuffnang Stickman having Kelatanese cuisine, we had our 2nd outing at a newly open restaurant in Sungai Buloh - Xiao Lao Wang Hotpot 小捞王. The restaurant was opened just a few months ago, and is own by the same group who owns Kissaten and Lammeeya. It was a challenge to find the place, but eventually we managed to get there.

Normally you would not associate steamboat with lunch, as it really takes a little bit extra time to consume the food. However, in Xiao Lao Wang Hotpot 小捞王, you could enjoy a delicious steamboat for lunch. They have a lunch menu whereby the hotpot is served with all the ingredients inside. All you need to do is to turn on the fire and wait for 10 minutes for the food to cook, and you are good to dig in after that. Talk about hassle free lunch!

Lunch hotpot

The pricing of the lunch hotpot range from RM20.80 (1-2 pax) to RM62.80 (6-8 pax). They really have lots of varieties - greens, toufu, mushrooms, pork and prawns. They used tripe as the base of their soup, and they have 2 varieties - original and the other added with salmon head. Our first hotpot was the original soup and it was super flavorful! Usually the soup tend to be very peppery, and you won't be able to taste anything after that. On the other hand, in Xiao Lao Wang it's the other way round.

Before we started to sink our teeth into the food, we had a demo from one of the partner - mix and match all the sauces and condiments! Did I mention that they have varieties these? You just need to pay an extra of RM0.50, and you'll be able to customise your own sauces.

We had 4 different type of sauces to pair with our food:

Version 1

Version 2 - added in sesame!

Version 3

Version 4

Finally the food are ready to eat! It cooked really fast and the soup was really flavorful.

The sotong ball was springy

Have you ever tried putting in lunheon meat a.k.a cold cut into a hotpot? If you've never tried that, maybe you should - it was delicious as the meat will absorb the soup, and you'll that the fragrance of fried meat and the essense of the soup in the meat.

We had a 2nd hotpot - which was boiled with deep fried salmon head. The fish head added extra flavor into the soup, and the tomatoes in it added a hint of acidity which bring the flavor to another level.

I got the eye!! YAY!! Looks scary huh?? LOL! They owner has also generously ordered us a lot more of food to go with the hotpot:

The one on the left is made of tendon and the one of the right is made of mushroom. They hand-made all of these ingredients back in their kitchen, and my favourite is the Mushroom Ball.

 Fried beancurd a.k.a "Fu Chok"

Scallops, Frozen Tofu, Pork and Oysters
Fried Rice Cakes

Apart from the hotpot, we tried their mouth-watering claypot rice with blood sausage and pork. Visually it was beautiful - green from the spring onions, yellow from the ginger, red from the pork and black from the blood sausages. Flavor wise, it was excellent too! I especially like the side where the rice was a bit burnt, but you get the texture from the crispy rice.

At the end of the meal, we added in a bowl of white rice. Why? To make porridge! Thou shall not waste, isn't it? So, instead of letting the soup go to waste, we made a bowl of aromatic porridge out of it!

Before we called it a day (for lunch), we had some chilled snow beer to cool ourself down.
The waiter pouring chilled Guinness (my fav!)

Look at that thin layer of ice!!!

Overall, it was a delicious and satisfying lunch. They are open from Monday to Sunday from 12pm-3pm and 6pm -11pm.

Lunch Buffet at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Coutry Resort

11:34 becky-wong 0 Comments

Just 2 weeks ago, my colleagues and I went to Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club to check out the venue for our company dinner. It was my 2nd time visiting the club and I really like the place - might be due to my love for horses! We found out that they are having weekday lunch buffet at RM18++ serving local cuisine. We decided to have our lunch at the resort - also to do a food testing as the same time. I mean, who wouldn't want to have lunch near to a pool during a nice afternoon! To add on, the environment was really nice and relaxing.

For starter, they served varieties of Ulam, which is Malay Traditional Salad. I don't really like my greens raw, hence I did not try out their ulam.

Ulam-Ulam aka Traditional Malay Salad

They have quite a few choices of condiment/sauces for the patrons to pair it with their ulam. Instead of thousand island and mayonnaise, they have Cincalok and Sambal.

I love spicy food and can't get enough of them! Instead of pairing the sambals with the raw greens, I decided to add them into my main dish - Nasi Lemak! The rice was fragance and and I like the fact that they have omelette for you to choose, instead of just the hard-boiled eggs. I love eggs, so I've ended up adding both in my rice!

Apart from the nasi lemak, they served some stir fried vegetables, chicken dishes and seafood such as fish and shellfish in their buffet line too. They were quite good and I was really impressed that their seafood were really fresh. ** Too bad I din't get to take pictures of these food.

On the other, I was a bit disappointing with the dessert. There were assorted kuih-muih, cheesecake and chocolate cake. I had the cheesecake and chocolate cakes, and they were a bit too dry for my liking.

There are some hit and miss with the dishes, but overall, it is still worth to give it a try. The food are fresh, pricing is reasonable and you'll get a poolside view for lunch! LOL!
