Stacks @ SS15, Subang: Affordable Japanese Restaurant
Whenever you're in SS15 Subang area, you'll never run out of food options. From mamak to cafes, coffee to dessert, Korean to Chinese cuisine - they have it all. Recently, my husband and I drop-by a newly-opened Japanese restaurant named Stacks.
Stacks started their operation back in December 2022 and their vision is to provide affordable, fulfilling and innovative food for everyone. There have kept their menu very simple with your typical sushi selections, sashimi, and a few rice and noodles options.
When it comes to drink in a Japanese restaurant, green tea would be our go-to and this is my first time having Drip Coffee at a Japanese restaurant. Something very different. If you are not into bold flavours, the mild flavours of drip coffee might be for you. It is a good, simple pick-me-up over your lunch too.
We started our meal with some sushi, which is definitely a must have when I'm at a Japanese restaurant. The sushi was priced at RM1.90 and RM2.90per plate, depending on what you are ordering. Although the quality wasn't over-the-top good, it was pretty decent.
I was excited when I see the mountain of assorted seafood stacking on top of the rice. The Kaisen Don had a nice ratio of sashimi and rice, and I think the portion is small enough that you can order other dishes to share with your friends. On the other hand, I find the lemon slices weren't contributing much to the dish, as they were sliced too thin for us to be able to squeeze any juice to zest up the Kaisen Don. It would be nice to add some citrus note to balance out the richness of the dish.
The Sarang Burung Stacks was a first for me. Ultimately, they've given devil eggs a Japanese twist by topping the egg with mayonnaise with crab meat and prawn roe.
The Stacks Nasi Lemak Maki is their Ramadan special menu and it's only available during the month of Ramadhan starting from 23 March 2023. It's a nice fusion dish but the sambal was a bit too spicy. If you have low tolerance for spicy food, this might not be for you.
Salmon Sashimi is pretty much another must-have for many people when dining at a Japanese restaurant. Stacks did not disappoint with their Salmon Sashimi. The raw fish was fresh and had the right thickness.
If raw food is not your kind of thing, give the Chicken Paitan Ramen a try. This bowl of noodle soup is a nnice way to warm your stomach up.
What better way to end our meal with a cup of hot green tea to wash down all the food we had.
Overall, if you are looking for something simple and no-fuss, Stacks might be the spot for you in SS15, Subang.
