The Moon Bar @ Bukit Damansara

Usually there's nothing much to talk about bar food, as they normally are just your typical "bar-kind" of food. However, in The Moon Bar it is the opposite. I had the chance to try out their dishes in one of Nuffnang's Tastebuddies outing. The Moon Bar started business roughly about 10 months ago, and had their soft launch in 24th August 2012.

When I walked into the bar, the first thing that I noticed was the live band playing in the bar. I always like live band performing, but I think the music is a bit too loud if you wish to do some catching up with friends. So, if you want to have some chit-chat session and yet still be able to enjoy the music, you can always opt for the outdoor seats of the bar.

To avoid us from dying of hunger, the food were served about the same time.

Roast Pork Belly Skewer + Black Pepper Lamb Parcels

The Roast Pork Belly was flavorful. The pork was crunchy and juicy at the same time; the grilled tomatoes and onions added some acidity and sweetness into the dish, which make me can't stop eating it. How I wished I could have all the skewers to myself.

I was a little worried when I heard the name Black Pepper Lamb Parcels, as I had too many unpleasant "peppery" experience when a dish was prepared with black pepper. However, this lamb parcels were otherwise. The wanton skin was fried to crisp (without the greasiness, of course), and the lamb was seasoned just nice, that you can taste a little heat from the pepper but not over-powering.

Bah Kut Teh a.k.a Herbal Soup with Pork

Just in case you thought you have read wrongly or your eyes were playing tricks with you - NO! You were not! You "read" my loud and clear - they serve Bah Kut Teh a.k.a Herbal Soupt with Pork. Never once in my life I thought I'll be having this dish serve in a bar. The soup was not too bad, but I would like to taste a little more of that chinese herbs in the soup.

Hokkien Noodles with Fried Pork Fat

Another surprise you'll find in The Moon Bar - Hokkien Noodles a.k.a Hokkien Mee. The taste of the noodles wasn't too bad, and I kinda like the fried pork fat - Chu Yau Cha. Compare to some of the hawker stalls out there, where the fat was kinda dark in color, the ones in The Moon Bar were different. It still have the crispy texture but minus the greasy taste.

Sri Lankan Spicy Wild Boar Varuval

I love my food spicy and I couldn't wait to try out the varuval. FYI - in their menu it stated 'Sri Lankan Spicy Mutton Varuval". Although it says "spicy" in the menu, you don't really feel it from the start. The heat starts to hit you after a while. It wasn't a very aggresive, but more to a subtle spicy - whereby, you will definitely feel the heat at the back of your throat but not so that you will be scrambling for a glass of water. However, for you peeps who have lower tolerance in spicy food - please make sure you have a glass of water, or better, a glass of milk ready. The wild boar was not bad, but I hope it was slightly more tender.

Curry Pork

Another spicy food of the night! Same as the varuval, the spiciness wasn't too aggresive, but still get your glass of water ready. Some of the bloggers actually thought that the curry was spicier than the varuval. So....beware!! LOL!!!

Basmati Rice

We had some basmati rice to go with the dishes that night. I would totally love the rice and finished the whole bowl...unfortunately, it was a tad too salty.

We were offered some cocktails while enjoying the live band performing in the bar. One of the best way to relax is to sit back + have some drinks + listening to awesome band performing. Although the outing was on a Sunday night (which..most of us would have to endure the Monday blues, unfortunately), but I think we did relax and had quite some fun that night. =)
