The Majapahit Restaurant & Bar @ Acoris Mont Kiara: Enjoy Mouthfuls of an Ancient Empire

The Majapahit Empire was once a great and powerful empire that ruled over a large part of Southeast Asia. During its glory days, the Majapahit Empire stretched over the entire present-day Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Sulu Archipelago, Philippines and East Timor.

Inspired by this mighty empire, The Majapahit Restaurant & Bar in Arcoris Mont Kiara has dedicated their menu to flavours of Thailand and Indonesia, along with a mix of Malaysian and Vietnamese taste.

Situated opposite 1 Mont Kiara and just a few steps away from Plaza Mont Kiara, The Majapahit Restaurant & Bar gives out a seemingly casual vibe but thoughtfully arranged, if you look closer. Stepping into the restaurant, I can't help but to notice the tropical theme interior with greens and both wood and rattan furniture. The place is brightly lit up with lots of natural sunlight flowing through the floor to ceiling windows. If you happen to drop by on a breezy afternoon or evening, take an outdoor seat and enjoy the natural breeze.

Occupying 2 floors at Arcoris Mont Kiara, the restaurant is really spacious and can accommodate up to 200 pax. If you plan to visit on a Friday or Saturday night, bring some friends along to enjoy the food and while the live band keeps you and your friends entertained.

Curry Galore (RM 52). Don't know what to choose? The Platter section is a good place to start, especially the Curry Galore that comes with a tray of 4 types of umami-filled curry - Thai Red Curry Beef, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Indonesian Squid Curry and Malaysian Prawn Curry.

My personal favourite would be the Indonesian Squid Curry and Malaysian Curry, as they pack a stronger punch than the other 2 in terms of heat and spices. The Curry Galore is served with a side of Chapati Bread and Cassava Crackers.

Satay of Southeat Asia (RM 52 - 12 sticks) | (RM 84 - 20 sticks). Almost every country has their own version of meat on the stick, and in The Majapahit, you get to enjoy 4 of their signature satays - Balinese Fish Satay, Malaysian Chicken Satay, Indonesian Beef Satay and Vietnamese Sugarcane Prawn.

The satays are really succulent and each are paired with unique dipping sauces to go with.

Spicy Seafood Tom Yam (RM 32). Tom yam is a must have when it comes to Thai food. The hot and sour soup works wonder in awakening the palate. I was expecting the spiciness to be toned down a few notches due to the expat demographic, but how wrong was I!

The soup was nicely balanced with aromatics such as kaffir lime and lemongrass, with generous serving of sea bass, squid and prawns.

Crispy Flying Fish (RM 52). Fried till crispy, this beautifully presented fish is one of the signatures at The Majapahit, served sweet and spicy dark sauce.

Coconut Butter Chicken (RM 25). For a non-spicy option, the rich stew of tender chicken pieces tossed with blend of ground spices and coconut milk is certainly a highly-recommended dish. I love the hint of aromatic curry flavours that comes through really nicely in the thick gravy.

Thai Stir-Fried Baby Kailan (RM 29). Although you'll see a chili sign next to the dish on the menu, the dish is not spicy. The greens were perfectly cooked with prawns, garlic and oyster sauce.

Nasi Liwet (RM 4.50). I was told Nasi Liwet is a fragrant rice dish from Java, cooked in coconut milk, chicken broth and spices. If you are wondering how does the rice taste like. It has a very similar taste to chicken rice.

Vietnamese Drip Coffee (RM 13). My daily dose of coffee was satisfied with the thick and aromatic Vietnamese Drip Coffee at The Majapahit. The condense milk would be served separately so you can adjust the sweetness to your own liking.

Overall, it was a nice dining experience at The Majapahit Restaurant & Bar. If you are looking to hang out with friends over some nice food, or you have visiting friends who are looking for some local culinary experience, The Majapahit is a perfect spot to be.

Reservations are highly-recommended as the restaurant is usually full almost every day. However, you can do try your luck to walk-in.

The 4 Makeup Items You Should Walk With For A Fresh Face All Day

Sometimes a long day with multiple stops is just something that can't be avoided. Whether it's a party, function or hot date after work, you may not have enough time to go home, remove your makeup and start all over again.

Thankfully, refreshing your makeup doesn't have to be an onerous task if you walk with just the right tools. You can knock down shine, brighten your smile and look more put together, refreshed, and wide-eyed by walking with just a few items from your entire arsenal:

- Lipstick
- Blotting paper
- Compact powder
- Concealer

1. Lipstick

A little lip colour goes a long way in helping you look more youthful, put together, and healthy. Instead of a hoard of lip glosses, balms, stains, and sticks, consider finding one (or two) that gives you the longest lasting colour and walk with it because at the end of the day, you will surely want to touch up or even change your lip colour before moving to your next outing.

Pro Tip: Go with lippies that offer moisturizing properties that can help keep your lips looking healthier as well. Healthy, supple lips make it easier to apply lipstick evenly and can also help it last longer.

2. Blotting Paper

Walking with blotting paper is especially suggested for individuals with oily skin. When refreshing your look, one of the first thing you should do is remove excess oil by dabbing (not wiping) the areas where oils shows up on your face.

3. Compact Powder

After blotting away excess oil, you can use your compact powder to reduce oil further to restore that matte look, even out your skin tone and protect your skin from sun damage. Furthermore, most pressed powder tools include a mirror so you can check your makeup no matter where you are. If things tend to get bumped around in your purse, you might consider putting your compact in a ziploc baggie to reduce the risk of spills should the pressed powder disc become damaged.

4. Concealer

Keeping a good concealer on hand is like walking with a magic wand for any noticeable blemishes you may have. Whether you've had a small pimple for the past few days or one that popped up over the past few hours, your concealer can help to cover it, as well as dark circles, minor scars or a long list of other things you may see as imperfections.

Thankfully, concealers are relatively inexpensive so you can buy two (one for home and one for your purse) without breaking the bank. Concealers are also incredibly versatile and  may be used for other purposes such as contouring and highlighting.

Makeup doesn't last forever. Even the most beat face will begin to show signs of wear as the day progresses; so if you plan to be out for an extended period or attend multiple events, you should walk with these 4 makeup items to ensure that you look your best, for longer.

PURE BEAUTY Illuminating Urban Shield: That "Shield" Against Air Pollution

Air pollution is one of the single most toxic substances for the skin, making it almost impossible to have perfect skin especially for those living and working in city area. When the skin is exposed to free radicals in the polluted air, it becomes more susceptible to wrinkles, less hydrated, less supple and less firm. With this in mind, Pure Beauty, a leading beauty brand from Korea has created a range of skincare to combat the problem.

Pure Beauty is based on its 4Ps philosophy of "Intensive Brightening Power":

Prepare: Preparation of using the willow bark extracts to enhance healthy skin.
Preserve: Preservation where Neurolight derived from the certified Natural Star Lily, decreases dark spot.
Protect: Ceramide 123 strengthens the skin's barrier, shielding it from harmful elements in the environment.
Prevent: Prevention of the exposure to pollution with EPS White helping to reduce dark spots.

The launch took place at Common Ground at Menara World Wide. It was my first time visiting the area and I really like how bright and cosy that place is. I can totally see myself working at the space.

The place was setup beautifully with flowers, which matches perfectly with the "White Theme" of the day. If only we were at an outdoor space or garden, it would have been perfect! Nevertheless, I was super happy to be able to get away from my work for a couple of hours while spending some time with my friends.

During the event, we had a workshop by Shazreeyana Shukri demonstrating steps of using the Pure Beauty Illuminating Urban Shield skincare range.

Pure Beauty Illuminating Urban Shield skincare has been formulated with the latest technology to enrich the skin's natural glow, while protecting it from daily pollution. The formulation also lessens the effects of dirt and dust and invigorate the skin, giving the skin a natural, confident glow throughout the day. There a total of 5 products from the range: Serum, Capsule Essence, Water Gel, Radiance Cream and Sun Protector with SPF 50+ PA++++; and we were given to chance to try out 3 of them.

Illuminating Urban Shield Capsule Essence (RM 69.90). Formulated with Nerolight and derived from Organic Star Lily, this Capsule Essence helps to reduce dark spots and brings out a natural shine. The product contains pearlized capsules that helps to diminish uneven skin tone and illuminates your skin, giving it a smoother and brighter look.

The essence is very lightweight and has a mild scent. I like how easily it penetrates into my skin nad leaving a supple glowing finish. Apply around 2-3 pumps of the essence on perfectly cleansed face and gently message into skin. Use twice daily, in the morning and evening.

Illuminating Urban Shield Radiance Cream (RM 59.90). The radiance cream has a soft and smooth texture, and it works to brighten and nurture the skin preserving it against environmental aggressors. Over 90% of users notice their skin has gotten more radiance, feeling more supple and hydrated after using the cream.

For a cream product, it is considered pretty lightweight and is suitable to be used both day and night. However, my face can get really oily especially during the day, so I'd prefer to use it during the night either as a thin layer of moisturizer or overnight hydrating mask.

Illuminating Urban Shield Sun Protector SPF 50+ PA++++ (RM 49.90). Sunblock is one of THE MOST important skincare routine, especially when it comes to protecting the skin from harmful free radicals. Just like the rest of their Urban Shield products, the sunblock is light-weighted and doesn't leave any sticky residue after applying. Apart from shielding the skin from exposure to harmful UV rays, it keeps the skin moistened throughout the day.

Overall, the Pure Beauty Illuminating Urban Shield is not just for those who wants a healthier, glowing and younger looking skin; but also to protect their skin from environmental stress too. The products are dermatologically tested and suitable for all skin types, while the pricing are considered affordable too.

Pure Beauty Illuminating Urban Shield range is available exclusively at all Watsons stores nationwide and at the Watsons online shop as well. Other Pure Beauty range available at Watsons Malaysia are Pure Beauty Pomegranate Urban Shield, PINK by Pure Beauty It's Pore Perfection, PINK by Pure Beauty Pink Skin.

NY Steak Shack @ Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall

Growing up as a movie buff, I'm always fascinated by those American-style diners, especially the energetic vibes in the diners and those stacks of pancakes with bacon. This also kind of set the way I see how a diner or any eateries should be - warm, friendly and generous in their food portion. As someone who loves to travel, I've always wanted to travel around America and experience the "diner experience" myself, but sadly my travelling fund is still work in progress.

However... I've recently found a place that gave me a peak into this classic American heritage!

Home to hundreds of different cultures, New York City is a cultural melting pot knows for its variety of ethnic cuisines, great restaurants, and the ability to find any kind of food at any hour of the day. Inspired by New York City, NY Steak Shack want to satisfy your cravings for just about anything you have in mind, ranging from steaks to burgers and shakes, and pasta made to order.

The restaurant has a retro vibe with theme colours of red and black. The somewhat rustic atmosphere would definitely give you a taste of the American heritage.

NY Steak Shack totally understands the joy of bonding over food, and with the festive season just around the corner, they have prepared some special dishes to cater to everyone's appetites. Like the phrase "Shared Joy is Double Joy", the NY-city inspired fast casual restaurant is introducing not one but FOUR amazing platters in its latest All New Sharing Platters menu - seafood, beef, poultry and lamb.

Seafood Platter (RM 89.90). The Seafood Platter comes with an authentic bend of fried calamari along with garlic shrimp on the side, combining with a sizzling plate of Emerald Fish. The calamari was crunchy but if you ask me, I'd say the soft and flaky fish was the star of the platter.

Lamb Platter (RM 99.90). Featuring a combination of lamb sausages along with lamb stew and sizzling lamb noisette on the side. The sausages were well-seasoned and juicy; while the stew was rich and hearty, although I would wish for flavours of the lamb to be more pronounced. On the other hand, the Lamb Noisette was perfect! Crispy crust around the edges, juicy and tender on the inside, this is one of my favourite dishes from the platters.

Poultry Platter (RM 89.90). Consists of Rosemary chicken and chicken cevapi toghether with a sizzling duck chop. The chicken wasn't too bad but nothing to shout about. The duck chop was perfectly seasoned and very tender and juicy.

Beef Platter (RM 99.90). For those who love red meat, you can indulge yourself in the Beef Platter which consists of a beef tenderloin skewer cooked to perfection along with beef meatballs on the side.

All of the sharing platters are complemented with pumpkin rice, fries and mixed vegetables. As for the sizzling entree, you can opt to order as an ala carte option starting from RM 23.90.

Pineapple Lemonade (RM 9.90). Indulge your meal by enhancing it with some refreshing mocktails or smoothies. I had the Pineapple Lemonade Smoothie and I find the zesty lemon flavours are perfect to wash down all the food we had.

The All New Sharing Platters is now available from 14 May to 15 July 2018. All food items served at NY Steak Shack are Halal certified. In conjunction with the Ramadhan and Aidilfitri period, RM5 from every platter menu purchased will be donated to Rumah Titian Kaseh and a donation box will be placed at all 10 NY Steak Shack outlets as part of the fundraising initiative.
